August or September 1780 again January 1781. He was captured& imprisoned
until September 1781. Returned home, wounded in head andhand. He left NC
for KY in 1789 to Franklin Co., in 1802 he moved to PulaskiCo. He served
with George Washington at Valley Forge.--(Sue Barrow, alsothere is a book
on the Barrow Early Family Vol. 2 #3 p. 49, 27, 217) WilliamW. Barrow, Jr.
was born in Meherrin Parish. He moved to Guilford Co.,Militia for a period
of three months. In 1781, he volunteered for another tour ofduty serving
as a spy and scout in North and South Carolina. Captured byCol. Tarleton's
Dragoons, he was placed on board the British ship lying offthe coast of
Wilmington, N.C. and held prisoner until August of 1781.Earlier, Capt.
William W. Barrow, saw service with the Continental Army andwas with Gen.
George Washington at Valley Forge during the winter when themen ate the
mocassins off their feet to keep from starving to death.While aboard the
British ship, he was summoned before the Captain and orderedto sing some
of the Rebel songs, including "Yankee Doodle" which he wasreportedly
famous for singing. Asked if he was not afraid to sing thosesongs, he
replied that he was not for those were his sentiments. Afterobeying the
order of the British Captain, he was given a glass of wineand sent away
without punishment or reprimand. In 1789, he moved toFranklin Co., Ky.
with his brother John of Surry Co., NC, with whom he wasliving in 1795
when their brother, Rev. David Barrow, visited them. Williamaccompanied
David to the Treaty of Greenville with the Indians in thesummer of
1795.--(p.44.) The executors of his will were Josiah W.Dick, & John
Barrow, witnesses were Leonard Roy, Thomas Wilson, andJoseph Roy.
