"James SKAGGS, s/o the founder of SKAGGS' Station lived in Hardin Co[later
Hart Co], on Linn Camp Ck. on a tract of land granted him by 2treasury
warrents. This James SKAGGS was also a Baptist preacher. Fellowminister,
Rev. Wm. DOWNS wrote a slin volume of hyms & poems. Song #69 is "Onthe
Rev. James SKAGGS,who departed this life Jan,1814." Sentimental &often
straining rhyme, the poem,nevertheless shows the affestion & regard inwhich
the Rev. James SKAGGS was heald,both by coworkers & members of hisflock."
"Nancy SKAGGS was granted the admx. of her dec'd husband's eatate inHardin
Co on 10th of Oct,1814. James SKAGGS (probably a son) & Joseph PEPPERsigned her bond."
