ALSO CONTAINED in his REVOLUNTARY WAR RECORD:
That he entered the service of the U.S. under the following namedofficiers and served as herein stated: To Whit, that he voluntered inthe Army of the U.S. " in latter part of the winter season" in theyear AD 1779 at Jasper Mountain, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, underCapt John Ellis with whom he served but a few weeks the company thenwent with Capt Ellis as this affidav___ed was then transfered to and_____________ the command of Capt Rose at the town of New London inBedford Co., Virginia when they formed the main Army.
He states the he served other captains whose names he has forgottenfor 2 years and some a few days and was discharged at New London,Bedford County, Virginia on the ______ day of _____________ AD 178_____. Was discharged a few months after the surrender of Corwallis atYorktown.
That he entered the service he resided in Pittsylvania County,Virginia and his father, Joshua Abston, at the time of his enlistmentwas a Captain in the Virginia Militia.
Troops marched from New London towards Richmond, then they turnedsouth and went to North Carolina. He states that he was in the KingMountain and was encampted for a short time at "Ninety-Six" and theonly field officier he can remember was Col. Washington.
Men voluntered at the same time he did was Thomas Smith, ThomasHancock, James Hancock, and William Strange.
Discharged papers burn by fire by a great grandaughter.
