Walt served three years in the US Armed Forces in World War II. He wasstationed in New Guinea. He attended two years of college atVanderbilt University in Nashville, and was quite intelligent. Hisfather, N.L. Bagwell, SR. was the founder and owner of BagwellPreserving Company in Nashville, Tennessee. Walt was vice-presidentand spokesman for the company prior to his moving to Louisville andmarrying Rhoda Bright Horton. His first wife was a RN, and they hadhomes in Nashville and in Miami, FL. His family was quite wealthy,very refined, and all of his sisters married wealthy men and lead"high society" lives among Nashville wealthiest and most affluentfamilies.

Cause of death: heart attack, lung cancer and chronic alcohol andtobacco addictions. En route to Veteran's Hospital,he died in theback seat of the car and fell over in his wife, Rhoda's, lap. He wasburied at the family cemetery in Nashville. He had no children,onlystepchildren: Dorothy, David, and Betty. He was 55.
