In the name of God, Amen, I, Robert Baber of Albemarle County beingsick
weak of body but of perfect mind and memory and understanding, do makethis
my last will and testament.
Imprimis. I give my soul to God that gave it and my body to decentburial
as my Executors sHALL think proper.
Item. I give and bequeath to my son William one young mare and one cowand
calf with one shilling sterling and no more of my estate.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Betty alias Elizabeth onenegro
boy named Harry with a reservation that if she marries William Walkernow an
apprentice to John Firn the said negroe is to belong to my son JohnBaber
and her interest in my estate to be one shilling sterling.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Rachel Webb one negro boynamed
Burnarck and one cow and calf to be her and her lawful heirs begottenor her
body with one shilling sterling.
Item. My will and my desire is that my negroes, James, Kate, Nan, Lucy&
Willis sHALL be lent my estate for the space of five years in order to
support my smaller children if in case my wife sHALL so long continueto
live in widowhood and if she marries the said negroes sHALL at hermarriage
they sHALL all be appropriated to such use that I sHALL hereinafterdirect
Item. I give daughter Ann my negroe fellow James to her and her heirs
forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann one shilling sterling.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Anne, alias Nanny my negroewench
Nan to her and her heirs forever, and wanting issue to my son John andhis
heirs forever with reservation that the first child the aforesaidnegroes
sHALL produce sHALL be appropriated to my daughter Sally Baber.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Nanny one shilling sterling.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Juriah, one negro wench Sueto her
and her heirs lawfully begotten of her body forever and in default ofissue
to my son John and heirs (sic) heirs, with one feather bed.
Item. I give my son John one negro girl Phyllis and dying withoutissue to
descent to my son Charles with all other claims of my estate evergiven and
bequeath to him.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Cockerham one shilling
sterling.
Item. I give to my Robert Baber one shilling sterling and no more ofmy
estate because he has had of me thirty nine pounds cash and threehundred
acres of land with it I lent him fifty pounds I promised him on hismarriage
and if my son Robert Baber is dissatisfied with the above land andmoney he
sHALL return the same and he sHALL be paid the fifty pounds I loanedhim in
the marriage out of my estate.
Item. I give my grand son George Baber, my balck (sic) horse namedColey
and my best saddle.
Item. I give and bequeath to my son John my Mill with two hundredacres of
land lying on Bear Garden Creek and more to put the said mill insufficient
working order when the said son comes of age.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Charles the Plantation that Inow
live on with the vingular appurtenances thereon belonging movable and
imovable and in case the said Charles should die without issue to myson
John and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto the child my beloved wife MargarieBaber is
now pregnant with the sum of thirty pounds current money of Virginiato be
paid to it upon its arrival of one and twenty years.
Item- I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally one feather bed withtwo
cows and calves to be paid to her by my executors upon her arriving tothe
age or twenty one years.
Lastly, I lent to my beloved wife Margaret Baber all my goods,chattels and
all other estate not herein excepted during her natural life and afterher
decease to be equally divided amongst the children then livingbegotten of
her body by me, now with this my last will and testament I do hereby
empower, ordain and constitute my beloved wife Margaret Baber and Mr.James
Daniel to be my whole and sole Executors, as
