Note: John David Bright and Malissa Ann Nolley married in Taylor County, KYon her 16th birthday -- 18 January 1909. He was 29. See marriage bondin BRIGHT FAMILY HISTORY which contains John David's originalsignature. They were married at the brides home and witnesses wereFranklin, Polly, and J.S. Farmer. Her father James Richard Nolley,Jr. gave his consent.
This marriage produced the following 12 children:
Melvin 1911 to 1997
Rhoda Ellen 18 Dec 1913 to 26 Feb 1994
William 1918 to 1992
James Irvin 1924 to 1986
Kenneth 1930
Harold Lee 07 June 1926 to 17 June 1926
Lula Katherin 08 Feb 1922 to 27 April 1923

Gilbert Lawerence 19 July 1927 to 19 Dec 1928
Cynthia Louise Unknown to unknown
Jessie 1916 to 20 Aug 1918
Lucille Unknown to unknown
Jessie died from scalding by hot coffee and according to FosterNolley, two others died from rat bites. Cause of death for others isunknown at this time.
All of these children are buried at the Benningfield Cemetery onMoore's Creek Road in Jessetown, Marion County, KY. Some have markedgraves, others markers are missing. (Markers are small metal platesattached to the small stones) The graves are all in a row, with thefirst two identified as "Annie Bright's Child", third is "GilbertBright".
John David and Annie were quite poor. They had extremely hard lives.Annie did washing and ironing for people as her living after JohnDavid's death. She was 45 when he died at age 57, from a stroke. Shelived to be 85 and died from colon cancer and trauma when taken to thehospital by an ambulance.
Note: The same minister, William King, who married this couple alsomarried: Jacob B. Bright and Polly Grim in 1810, David and JudithDinsmore 1799 and George and Catherine Couchman in 1802.
Note: Frances Ellen Sapp died at age 29 and is buried in Palestine Cemeteryin Taylor County KY. Cause: Unknown. Her tombstone has -- FrancesEllen -- wife of Daniel W. HORTON inscribed upon it. At the bottom is" Faithful in her trust Even unto death".
This would be the first marriage of Daniel, and produced threechildren. However, only one record of the eldest child has been foundas of 3/1/98: a Taylor CO school census of 1897, listing Burnetta as11 years old, daughter of Daniel Horton, Finley, KY.
Other sources (oral) say that Burnetta died at age 17...cause of deathunknown. Again, there is no other record of Burnetta other than theschool census.
There also may have been a male child who died when he was young, butno record has been found for documentation.
Interestingly enough, on some of the Taylor Co Census, Clara as listedbut it is Burnetta's date of birth and age that is recorded??
See marriage bond and certificate for Daniel and Frances in HORTONFAMILY HISTORY.
Note: This marriage is recorded in Taylor County KY Marriage Book 11, pg396
Both are 19 years of age, making both of them born in 1870 contrary toother dates of birth. No parents are listed on the record.
Maggie Ellen died in childbirth with last daughter named for her.
Maggie Ellen's tombstone, according to Researcher Jim Mardis whorecorded the grave in Brown Cemetery, Taylor Co KY, reads that she wasb. 12 March 1870 and d. 15 June 1900--which is either incorrect orillegible since she had three children born after June 1900. Mustmake trip to this cemetery.
Note: Elmer Horton and Cordie Jane Colvin were married 18 October1913 in Taylor County, KY. They traveled to Ilinois where their firstchild Joseph Daniel "Pete" was born on 11 July, 1914. They returnedto KY; a deed shows that they sold 10 1/2 acres of land in Taylor Co(deeded to them by S. and Jennie Colvin--this is Schooner and JeanSapp Colvin, sister to Frances Ellen Sapp Horton) in 1917. They movedto Marion County, KY and bought land on which they lived all theirlives.(See photo of their home in New Market, KY)
On their marriage certificate, Elmer and Cordie state theyare both 21 years old. Other records indicate Elmer was 18 and Cordiewas 19 when they married. (Marriage listed in Marriage Book 18 Page158 Marion County.)
