Jacob Baughman, who was Captain of the company, was killed while trying to save his mother, who was also killed and scalped.John Ferrill was also killed. Jacob's niece, Margaret, told of hearing him call "stick to them boys" for a long time as she ran. Jacob's wife, Margaret and some of the children managed to escape to safety.
