They moved back to Pleasant Grove, close to his parent's homeplace. Gearldine was born there. After Butler married Amencie they moved to the Bloomfield Rd. near the turn off to Lincoln Park. When Butler was a young boy he liked to stay with his grandparents, Hilton. He and Byron Arnold played to gether as children and attended the same school when Butler stayed with his grandparents. Butler's grandmother wound send him to school with a lunch pail full of homemad goodies. Byron's lunch pail contained things bought at the store-crackers, cheese, ect. Byron would like to trade lunches with Butler and Butler liked the storebought goodies. Before school the boys with other friends would soak corn cobs in water and after school have a corn cob fight. Boy, would those wet cobs hurt.

Henry and Mary Hilton helped to raise Butler. He said he could do most whatever he pleased and were very good to him. His grandmother kept candy in the top drawer of a chest, and used to give it to her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they visited.

Butler was 2 years old before he started talking. As he and his parents were crossing a stream of water, the water began to come into the floor of the buggy, Butler said "deep". After that day some say he never stopped talking.

Butler loved to joke and play cards. He would hit his knee and laugh a deep laugh.

At his funeral Black as well as White attended.. Parents: William Watson "W.W." SHEWMAKER and Ida Bell HILTON.
